My sister and mom have kept my mind busy as they talked about what they’ve been up to since I’ve been gone. Collette is seeing someone now. A guy she met in school named Anthony. He’s in some of her classes and they study together. I’ve never seen my sister blush when she’s talking about someone she likes; it’s cute as hell and something I’m glad I got to witness while I’m here at home and not see through a screen. Mom and dad have already met him, and they seem to love him and the way he treats my baby sister. He takes her out to eat, holds doors open for her, gives up his coat or sweater if she gets cold, and defends her honor when the assholes at school want to run their mouths. Anthony seems like the kind of guy I’d want for Collette and I’m happy as hell she found her one. At least from the way she talks you’d think she found him.

I shared stories about Marliegh and the time I’ve spent with her since showing up in Willow Creek and meeting her. We talk about the time we spend in the kitchen together cooking and baking for Marliegh and her dad to have sweets to munch on. My mom gets me to open up a little more again about the situation I find myself in with Rock and how confused I am. Collette believes I should head back to Willow Creek and talk things out with Rock too. If I were a betting girl, I’d wager my dad will tell me the same exact thing. They love me and want me here, but it’s time for me to live my life too. A life I’m slowly working on building in Willow Creek. I still have a lot to think about in regard to heading back in the next few days or so though.

With my hair and makeup done at the salon, I only have to put my dress on and make sure I don’t need to touch anything up before we head out for the night. I’ll have dinner with my family and whoever else is sitting at the table with us. Then, my dad and I will dance before he dances with Collette and then our mom for the rest of our night there. While they dance and broker deals, or whatever else they do at these events, I’ll probably sit down at the table when Collette is spending time with Anthony. He’ll be there tonight so I’ll get to meet him. Maybe they’ll be sitting at the same table with us so I can get to know him a little while I’m in town. He’s been to the house since I’ve been there, but since I’ve been hiding away I haven’t seen him yet.

“Ready to go?” Collette asks, pulling me out of me head as I stare in the mirror at my reflection.

I’ve managed to cover almost all of the bruises left behind since they’re a nasty yellow color now.
